Get cozy at 30,000 feet with this perfect toddy for a red-eye flight

makes 1

Okay, let’s get real for a second. When we’re talking about flights, sometimes the destination is better than the journey itself. Red-eye flights are the absolute worst, right? Trying to get some sleep while turbulence is your new lullaby? Not ideal at all.

But you know what could make it better? Something warm, comfy and cozy to sip on and get you in somewhat of a state of zen. Like this Night Flight Toddy – *wink wink*. Take it from us, this is your new secret weapon for conquering those dreaded overnight journeys.

Here at Sips & Skies (our own imaginary in-flight mixology bar,) we believe first class is a state of mind, and with a little creativity, you too can craft a delicious cocktail experience right from your seat.

Imagine this: you’re snuggled up in your airplane seat with that movie you’ve been excited to watch turned on, a cozy blanket wrapped around you, sleep mask on your head, and in your hand, a warm, comforting Night Flight Toddy. It’s like a little hug in a tea cup. We’ve packed this one with all the good stuff to help you unwind and drift off to dreamland (or at least to a state of tranquility!) Think warm chamomile, soothing honey, and just a touch of something special to help you relax (hello whiskey.)

We know what you’re thinking: “Can I really drink this on a plane?” Yes! Everything in this recipe is either TSA-approved or can be purchased on the flight for maximum convenience. Technically, we can’t promise it’ll turn your seat into a cloud nine, but we can promise it’ll make the flight feel a whole lot shorter. It is also an *exceptionally* fun couple’s activity if you’re flying together! We like to bring a crossword puzzle or travel game with us to make a fun little date out of the flight, and are definitely guilty of counting 1…2…3.. *press play button on both screens* to synchronize watching the same movie simultaneously.

So, next time you’re booking that red-eye, don’t forget to pack your favorite fancy tea cup and this Night Flight Toddy recipe. Your future sleep-deprived self will thank you.

Pro Tip:

We love to be a little extra af when traveling, but if you’re worried about spills, invest in a travel mug with a good lid. It will also keep your toddy extra warm.

Sweet dreams, flyer!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 mini whiskey or to taste!
  • 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 stick honey
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1 infuser chamomile citron tea
  • 1 lemon peel to garnish

Instructions

  • Order a cup of hot water and whiskey from the flight attendant. In a tea cup or mug, pour whiskey, lemon juice and hot water. Add tea infuser and honey stick. Swirl honey stick while allowing tea to steep for 5 minutes. Garnish with lemon peel.

Notes

  • Honey on a stick is a great mess-free, travel-friendly way of carrying the ingredient onto your flight. However, a tablespoon of liquid honey (per drink) would also work!
  • We use chamomile citron tea infusers, however regular chamomile would be just as tasty!

What we use:

Chamomile Citron Tea

Honey Spoons
